Everyone's 2nd-favorite band named after poison gas (#1 = the legendary Napalm Death, for those not up on their WW2 history) has returned in 2003 to show the metal masses how metal is done properly. Utilizing a pure death metal approach, they seem to have turned their back on the black metal-inspired effort put forth on their acclaimed effort, World ov Worms. Personally, I think that's a positive, as only a few songs on that album moved me at all. They seemed to have found their groove on Aeon, and a hint of the old-school of US death metal rears its head. Aeon plays like a progression from a Morbid Angel album, except I enjoy it, unlike your average MA album. While the drums fly along at breakneck speeds, the guitars generally stay planted in a slower place. Skill-wise, Zyklon has more than enough ability to accurately pull off whatever sound they want, but what would you expect from a band made up of members from bands including Emperor and Myrkskog. Aeon's production is perfect for a Diesel-approved death metal album. Everything comes through perfectly, guitars, vox, and especially the drums, which are heard, but not forced down your throat, like many death bands of today. The double-bass is a bit clicky, but not to extremes. Fierce, throwback death metal is the dish of the day with the new Zyklon. The Prophetic Method is a must-hear song. Firmly rooted in thrash, this particular song goes straight for the jugular, and keeps on squeezing. Psyklon Aeon features some nasty dissonant riffing, along with a dual-vocal attack by Secthdamon; one being the typical screamed vox, and the other sounding like Rob Zombie on roids. I love it! Core Solution embarks on a markedly slower pace than the rest of the album, but fans of evil-sounding triplets will dig the hell out of the verse sections. A meandering, almost Nile-esque, solo awaits the listener. All of the other tracks are solid as well, even the odd techno finale to Electric Current. Aeon is a strong effort put forth that remembers how death metal used to be done, and how I feel it should be done. There will undoubtedly be those that feel cheated by this new direction, away from the chaos of World Ov Worms, but you can’t please everyone.

This album is lame as hell. It has atmosphere, but the riffs are so damn boring, and it was here that they started relying heavily on rhythm guitar triplets, which also get boring. I suppose it's okay on it's own, but compared to World OV Worms, every copy of this album should be melting in shame.

Aeon is a killer,i dont think i have ever heard Death Metal played with such absolute total power.i was able to get Aeon in a limited "Tin Can" which makes it even special. The production of this is awesome it has this huge canyon sound to it.The drums have a massive galloping sound, the bass runs are wild, vocal, guitar work all way above the pack.I have heard a lot of metal but honestly this is something really special. The killer tracks are "Specimen Eruption" and "Subtle Manipulation".Anyone who slags Aeon off simply hasnt heard it or just doesnt like metal.Zyklon play metal at total full throttle and with class all the way.

Chuckles if you want cheap death metal cds go to www.redstream.org. They are much cheaper there than on amazon. Since death metal is not extremely popular its hard to find cds in places like best buy.

Haha first Tim, Napalm isn't a gas. Anyhow, I loved this CD. Core Solution was definately a standout for me, loved the guitar work. Vocals were also spot no. As for comparing this work to WoW, I can't say I've heard the entire album, but from what I have, it seems a little too different to judge better or worse. So I'll just say, this is a great release and new direction.

The chaos inherent on "World ov Worms" can be surmized as genius. It's more aking to Myrkskog's "Deathmachine" and much better. The similarity is probably due to the fact that Destructhor started Myrkskog and still plays in that band! The vocals are better on "World ov Worms" because Daemon from Limbonic Art did them. He is clearly a superior vocalist. Though Secthdamon's Vocal performance was interesting enough on "Aeon." Just for the author's information, Zyklon-B is the real name of the gas and in 1995 Samoth was in a project under that name. The album was called "Blood Must be Shed" and it was released by Malicious Records. It featured Ihsahn, Frost and Aldrahn, for those into real metal, you know who I am talking about.

World ov worms i found better than this album, not least the vox on that album were far superior to this, and most other albums. Just the whole sound of the album i preferred. Cant please everyone, of course. This still rules

whereas World ov Worms was a black/death metal masterpiece, this is a death metal masterpiece. Just as good, just a different formula.

World Ov Worms is 10 times better, more complex and intense, but this one is OK I guess.

Its a great album, but its not an awesome album. Aeon is still high above the average death metal band out there today, but i agree with KT, sometimes it just seems to be a little lacking.... still rate it extremely highly though!
