Employing many of the same elements heard on A Vulgar Display Of Power and Far Beyond Driven, Montreal's A Perfect Murder is a band that shamelessly embraces and largely borrows from its influences. On their fourth full-length effort in just four years, War Of Aggression sees the Canadian quintet further pushing the groove-thrash sound made famous by long disbanded acts like Pantera and Exhorder. More than just a generic palm muted thrash rehash, however, War Of Aggression offers the occasional change up, giving the album a broader range of variety. Such is the case on songs like "Rapture" and "Within", where the band pays a visit to their ghosts of hardcore Christmas past with a few brief breakdowns, and "Label Me", which has a very familiar Black Label Society feel in some of the riffs and chorus sections. Without a doubt the most out of place of tracks, "Fortunate Son" is an acoustic piece that is somewhat reminiscent of older Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains.

War Of Aggression is far evolved from the original A Perfect Murder sound laid out on their first two releases, and a strong outing that appears to be their last, as they've recently announced that the band is no more. With so few acts playing this brand of metal, it would seem that the groove-thrash genre is as dead as Dimebag Darrell. Fortunately, technology has bestowed upon us the means to capture and cherish the music heard on albums like The Law, A Vulgar Display Of Power, and War Of Aggression far after the bands that created it are gone, and in a way allowing it to live on forever. Bottom line - Fans of Hatebreed, Lamb Of God, and of course Pantera should appreciate A Perfect Murder in what is sadly their final moment of triumph.

Hey someone using my name in a lash. I didn't think I even came here enough to warrant someone trying to sully my "cred", and if I came here more often they'd probably know I don't give a shit.

Splitbolt and Throwdown will carry that sound on. Groove-Thrash wont die either. What worked for Pantera, will work for many other also.

To The dude: Exactly. Canadians arent a race, as Americans aren't. Well the word Frog is still an insult, and thats why we get so pissed of because we do not have a generic word like this for american people. And if I wrote some shit like Die fuckin americans, the hate lash count would go dangerously up. So I dont need to calm down. To EthR: French and Quebec metal do kick ass. To be honest, I didnt give em a fn buck yet, but maybe i'll check em out. You're right, theres no race thing. Thats why I got so pissed off. And if you come to Quebec, there's lots of pretty frogs to fornicate with.

@Vile Vengeance LOL, have you ever been to Northern California? Not just San José and San Francisco???? It feels so 'backwoods' over there it puts the locals in Deliverance to shame. Seriously.

Haven't read the lashes below, so I might be repeating someone, but not 2 weeks after this album was released these fuckers broke up. I never liked em after their TV ad said Metallica is Old and Pantera are Dead, and we're the shit now, blah, blah, blah. While I agree with the Metallica part, it's just disrespectful to say that about Dime and Pantera. Yea, I pretty much have worshipped Pantera since Vulgar Display, still do and always will. No one comes close, especially these guys.

Aarghon - lolerz - okay okay I'm an ass it's true - but it is an American's right to rip the French, it's right there in the constitution ;) (of course I'll ignore the fact the USA would not exist with out the help of the French, but we repaid that one with WWI and they still owe us for WWII) So double horns up to Frogville for Gojira, Dagoba, Scarve, Blut Aus Nord, and Hacride. \m/\m/ BTW - there is no such thing as "race" - regarldess of color we can all hump de dump de bump and produce viable offspring. Finally, I actually bought this album and really like it. How much $$ have you given them?

speaking of throwdown, their vocalist has added a new range to his repertoire... and sadly it is of the sully erna variety. it might be the worst thing ever in the history of worst things ever. then again throwdown hasn't ever been good.

Yeah, that would be my guess as well. Since he was from the south they just made their album cover to signify the mix of Southern metal with Canadian. It makes sense and is appropriate I think.

@ Devin I was thinking the same at first, but remembered that the 'new' vocalist (for this album and last one, aka Phil Jr.) is a Tennesseean. Must've talked the rest of the boys into it. Shame these guys are done, I liked 'em.

The fleur de lis is a popular symbol here in south Louisiana, so for me the cover reeked of a northern band desperately trying to be southern. But most people here are descended from Nova Scotians so I guess that's why we also use the fleur de lis. I agree about this band's previous work being forgettable though. Maybe this one will be better.

I like Hatebreed, I like some Pantera occasionally, and even a little LoG sometimes, but this band bores the fuck right out of me. i bought "Unbroken", and sold it back to the Wherehouse music store for like $3, and I bought "Strength Through Vengeance", listened to it a few times, and have basically forgotten aboot(canadian for "about") it. If I wanna hear a band that sounds like Pantera, I'll listen to some Pantera, or maybe the new Throwdown(sell-outs) CD.

Well the Fleurdelisé element is pure Frog/French/Quebec which is where they are from but they play southern thrash aka Pantera. Maybe they are putting their "Stamp" (Fleurdelisé) on Southern thrash/Pantera (Confederate Flag). I have this disc and the colors are really washed out/muted, its not a true red/blue and white flag.

Now why would a band from Canada put a confederate flag on their album cover? That doesn't make any damned sense!
