So what do you get when you combine aspects of Meshuggah, Fear Factory, and Strapping Young Lad? If you said Raunchy, you'd be right. If you said Mnemic, you'd still be right, but you probably should've said Raunchy to avoid looking stupid.  The Audio Injected Soul is a rhythmic album, relying on its heavy production values, yet isn't as industrial influenced as some of the aforementioned bands. It's "hybrid metal" apparently, with sort of a Soilwork rasp and a Burton C. Bell method of clean singing, it's really easy to just sort of...well, see how Mnemic really sounds like the two bands. Maybe not with the same anthemic choruses or technical ability, but there's a remarkable similarity. It pains me to say this, as I really admire bands who aren't afraid to use clean singing, but the vocals are almost smothering and overdone; really overprocessed and layered. It takes away from the continuity of the album to be continually shifting from somewhat tough and mechanical riffs and gang-shouted vocals, all the way over to these synth-laden, epic choruses.

I'm thinking it's just a change in production which makes the music go down like a bottle of cherry flavored Tussin. Smooth, yet unenjoyable - ultimately leaving you tired. Sort of in the same way a band like Scarve seems to fail. These aren't bad bands, but they're just doing something wrong. Musically, there isn't a lot of deviation from their previous effort, Mechanical Spin Phenomenon; they've succeeded in that sense. It's ear-pleasing, but totally devoid of substance. But don't get me wrong, here. Mnemic are a talented group, they're just not excellent songwriters. I've never been one to knock a band purely because it's easy to digest - ask anyone here, I'll defend some real wretched shit. But Mnemic? I'm not sure I can get behind this one. Unless it was sexually speaking. There's some really solid verses, but things sound out of place this time around. Maybe my tastes have changed, or maybe I just didn't give the first album a good enough listen.

What's more than likely happened is that the small things I found annoying about their first release, but tolerable, were amplified this time around. Mnemic's simply become more Mnemic. Can I blame them? No, I can't. I'm not going to listen to it, though. All things considered, I'll say that if you're a fan of their first album or bands like Raunchy, Fear Factory's latest release, or you really like Soilwork's cheesy choruses, you might do well to pick up The Audio Injected Soul.

Lucky for me crappy reviews encourage me to go and find out exactly why the person who did the crappy review is talkin shit. Since I have been listening and following MNEMIC since MSP, I know better then to listen to someone elses perspective about MNEMIC. Aile's opinion is just that, his opinion, which we all have one. But dont let discourage you from giving AIS a listen, it is a slight departure from MSP. With any new direction a band takes its going to sound different, but thats what its all about, music is experimentation in sound and I admire any band who isnt afraid to venture into new territory. Unlike Slayer and Black/Death Metal bands who coninue to vomit up the same albums over and over again...boring!

i have to agree to the fact that they don't know how to write a song, lyrics-vise, but the music is tottaly devastating to your ears, in the good sense... mnemic may not know how to write lyrics, but hey, sometimes I don't need "clever" lyrics, but just some heavy shit to bash my around to, and here mnemic certainly does the job!!! but I have to say, the first album is better, but who knows what might happen with the new lead singer? I for one are pretty exited to fing out..? bamse225@hotmail.com write me if u wanna discuss

...good review but the content is all wrong. This band is amazing. On this website crap gets 5.0 all the time and this band does not deserve it? Ridiculous. It's nothing like Fear Factory. Raunchy pretty much sucked up until their last effort and were more alternative than anything. And these guys are more trashy/death than Soilwork. Although the comparisons can be accurate, these dudes still own.

After listening to this album for a month, it gets boring and makes you feel like you've heard it all before. This album isn't anything special.....don't buy it, save your money.

"It's ear-pleasing, but totally devoid of substance. But don't get me wrong, here. Mnemic are a talented group, they're just not excellent songwriters." R U f'n kidding me?! Mnemic are AMAZING songwriters which is exactly what sets them apart from 99.9% of the other bands out there! No substance my ass! LISTEN to 'Deathbox' and tell me that's not a monster song! Otherwise you need to go back to your shitty cookie monster/metalcore/whatever bands that wouldn't know how to write a hook if their sorry lives depended upon it coz you obviously don't get it in the least! This is easily the album of the year ahead of Sybreed, Lamb of God, Raunchy, Killswitch, Mastodon and all the rest. And as good as the last Soilwork and FF albums are - they pale in comparison to the TAISoul.

Good review Drew, I think your arguments are valid. I did purchase the first one and I was hooked in the beginning but the more I listen to that album the more my interest waned. This is a talented group though but their objectives are very clear: to be as palpable to the metal masses as possible while retaining a certain heaviness to still attract the real partisans of this style of music. I mean, they called it heavy metal for a reason...It's supposed to be fucking heavy right. Not to say that something a little more user friendly is not without merit but I think I will personally stick to the originators (Meshuggah, Fear Factory, SYL) of the style they are trying so hard to emulate.

That's what this crap is, blah metal. They're just stealing from good bands and calling it good. The band members might be talented enough, but the music is boring and the songwriting just isn't all that spectacular.

for those that did not hear. Denmark's modern thrashers MNEMIC, featuring former INVOCATOR session drummer Brian Rasmussen and ex-MERCENARY guitarist Mircea G. Eftemie, have announced that their upcoming sophomore album, "The Audio Injected Soul", will contain three-dimensional sounds. Being the first band in the world to work with this new technology, some of the sounds featured on the album have been recorded using Binaural Techniques. Binaural recording technology differs from Mono, Stereo and Surround Sound and is mostly used in game development. In order to experience the 3D sound you must wear a head-set.

Yes, it is the album that's supposed to have new 3D effects. I personally haven't heard them, but I've only given this 1 spin so far, so I probably missed it.
