I’ve actually had this album on my ipod since its UK release last year on Siege of Amida Records, and now Candlelight is bringing this British beat down stateside to help you yanks forget about Annotations of an Autopsy (Ingested actually features two former AOOA members).  

Though most will try to throw the ‘deathcore’ tag at this Manchester act and their ties, the truth is Ingested are much more of a typical ‘slam’ death metal act aka Devourment, Disgorge and such (though many, including myself would be hard pressed to verbalize the difference between the two beyond fashion sense).  

First off, yes there are some pig squeals and bass drops and yes there are over produced, triggered mechanical drums, but they are offset by an absolutely massive guitar sound that makes every track rumble and lope with menace. Right from opener “Skinned and Fucked” to closer “Anal Evisceration,” the album pulls no punches and really doesn’t need to be broken down. It's chock full of huge breakdowns and triggered blast beats, but they are done well and with plenty of girthy heft to warrant involuntary slamming with your significant other. That all being said, Ingested manage to make things sound less forced and more naturally death metal with the likes of “Copremesis,” “Intracranial Semen Injection,” and “Stillborn” injecting some very nice lurches and transitions that reek of Suffocation and Dying Fetus as opposed to deathcore. And as you can tell, lyrically, this is no emo drenched, quirky Twilight core for Hot topic kids.  

With the likes of Ignominious Incarceration, Man Must Die, Ingested, The Eyes of A Traitor, Trigger the Bloodshed and even an improved Annotations of An Autopsy (at least based on cursory listens to the upcoming II: Reign of Darkness), modernized UK death metal appears to be in good hands and on par with their U.S. peers (take that as you will).
